Below you can find a more or less complete listing of demo recordings and projects that were definetely important for me in terms of experience and working professionally. Maybe, you'll find some songs on future recordings, because there's a lot of great material written with most projects, but these are the originals.
MR. HATE
Besides our official album release in 1997 we recorded three demos. The first one in 1994 (different line-up), the second one, "Undubbed", originally was intended to be the pre-production for the second album, which unfortunately was never ever recorded.
Two years later in '99 we recorded our last four track demo, engineered by my FOREVER-fellows Detlev "Deddy" Andler und Wolfgang "Frankie" Frank. In my opinion these for tracks are some of my best performances ever. The demo was named "Sign This Band Before Somebody Else Does"… we split up before anyone could, but our bass-player Roger Kayy tried to get signed with that recording under the name of STRAIN. Sadly, he didn't manage to…
FOREVER
With the guys from FOREVER I recorded several demos. Many tracks more than once or twice… The guys contacted me after listening to MR.HATEs "Fragments" in some bar somewhere in Pforzheim. At first, I was only a "hired gun", sang their stuff, got paid… but we became friends, and after the split from MR.HATE I was working much more closely with the guys. One day the guys finally managed to get some sort of record deal. Well, I wasn't happy with it, I wouldn't wanna sign it, and their so called label boss (nothing but a fuckin' asshole!) didn't like me working with other bands (I joined DOMAIN some time before). The band decided to look for another singer (we had already recorded most of the material for their debut album), and I was shocked! Looking back, the decision was definetely right for both sides: I could concentrate more on my work with Axel Ritt & DOMAIN, and they found the perfect match in former INTUITION-vocalist Jay Marks, one of the most friendly persons I ever had the fortune to meet. Take care guys, I know, you definetely deserve to hit the big spot! >>Demo-Info
LAZARUS DREAM
I know many musicians, and some stories you get to be told many times. With LAZARUS DREAM I tried to bring people together, who mainly had two things in common: Outstanding musical talent on the one hand, and pure frustration with current band members on the other. The band mainly was formed around brillant WINTERLAND guitarist Markus Pfeffer and SANVOISEN musicians Angel Schönbrunn (guitar) and Achim Keller (drums). We had some sessions together to check out different ideas, and everything sounded rather promissing, but the SANVOISEN guys got more involved in their band-trouble with their other band members, so Markus and me had to go on on our own. We recorded a couple really good songs pretty easily, which were more like Prog (into which I was pretty much back then). Well, later I was too busy with DOMAIN and Markus got back to WINTERLAND. Maybe someday… Rock on Markus! >>Demo-Info
SANVOISEN
Yes, I was in SANVOISEN, too! Or, lets say, in one half of two… After Angel Schönbrunn and Achim Keller seemed to lose interest in LAZARUS DREAM, the guys asked me to join SANVOISEN. At this point I thought, they had already fired their former vocalist, but Angel & Achim only were the one half of SANVOISEN. The other two guys (vocals & bass) tried to go on as SANVOISEN as well. It came to a long, nerv-tearing struggle about who's allowed to go on using the band's name. I still don't know, how they all ended up, because after half a year (I had already joined DOMAIN) I quit. It didn't seem to be a good idea, being in two bands (DOMAIN & SANVOISEN) replacing vocalists that are absolutely different to what I'm doing, especially if one of those singers didn't feel like being kicked out…
Anyway, we recorded a couple songs together, that were pretty mediocre, which was basically because Angel didn't seem to know, what he wanted to do, and me having some constant vocal problems. Still I think, we had some pretty good ideas, and "Clay Coloured Sunday Morning Mood" is a cool, straight rocker… gotta re-record that one someday.
Nevertheless, I became friends with drummer Achim "Killer" Keller, which I later on called to join FATE OF NATIONS. >>Demo-Info
FATE OF NATIONS
Formed by Michael Müller & Barish Kepic (both of JADED HEART fame), FATE OF NATIONS started in mid 2001 as the perfect opposite to DOMAIN for me. Groovy Hard Rock in the vein of LYNCH MOB or BADLANDS. I brought in heavy hitter Achim "Killer" Keller as drummer, and the demoing started definetely promissing. But due to busy touring and recordings both of JADED HEART and DOMAIN, everything went on pretty slowly. After quite some time, the guys seemed to head for a way heavier, more like Power Metal sound to not be compared to JADED HEART (which I did defintely understand, because our original sound had much more in common with JADED HEART, than with DOMAIN. Actually some of Barish's instrumental ideas for FON, happened to end up on JADED HEARTs "The Journey Will Never End" album). I'm not a Power Metal shouter. I can probably sing like that, but I simply don't have any ideas for it. I left, but I hope, the guys will find a cool replacement to go on rockin'…! I put online my favourite FON track "Babylon Calling", which to me personally was the perfect example of how the band should sound, along with the KISS cover tune "Danger". >>Demo-Info
